Shelburne County Women's Fishnet

"Festival of Women & Song"

This second year promises to be a weekend filled with music, crafts, exhibits, and fun for the entire family.  The festival will feature music from local and regional women including youth voices, and genres such as folk, rock, contemporary, country, gospel and bluegrass.

Shelburne County Women's Fishnet is a registered non-profit organization whose mission it is to provide service to women and families in Shelburne County, Nova Scotia.  Fishnet strives to be "woman focused" in assisting women to locate their own sense of empowerment within social, economic and personal growth.

In 2004 Fishnet's board of directors decided to create a concert to celebrate local women song writers.  A small concert featuring three women developed and was deemed a success (the venue was meant to hold sixty people and seventy were in attendance).  Another small concert was held in the fall of 2005 and once again experienced success.  The performers, board members as well as the recreation and cultural communities wanted to expand on the concerts to further highlight the undiscovererd talent within our rural community.  The idea of an outdoor women's music festival emerged.  With Fishnet taking the lead role on the project, a planning committee was formed with representation from a number of community based organizations and Harmony Bazaar was well underway.

The 2006 event was hosted by Yvonne Colbert and featured performances by *Madviolet*, Lynne Crowell, Christine Crawford, Julie Balish, Cathy Cook, Jessica Keen, Tiffany Suttle, Stacey deMolitor, Pat deMolitor, Merrie Howe, Manu, Lisa Buchanan, Shelley Meisner, Kim Atwood, Judi Cleveland, and Cathy Cook.
