PROJECTS

The Town of Lockeport has been fortunate enough to be participating in projects over the past couple of years that without the Building Canada Fund, the Federal Gas Tax and the Community Adjustment Fund/Innovative Community Fund through ACOA the majority of these projects would not be possible.  In conjunction with funding from these Federal and Provincial partners we have also received funding from Community organizations and businesses.  The community has taken an active role and interest in these projects.  The volunteer Medical First Responders and Harmony Bazaar, through active fundraising, have provided funding towards the projects. Their involvement has secured infrastructure that will enhance their activities and provide for their future success.  Several businesses in Town have participated in the projects as well because they know that it takes great effort to continue to make our community attractive and enticing to Tourists, new residents and new business ventures.

Thank you to all who have made it possible for the Town of Lockeport to take part in these projects.

LOCKEPORT CELEBRATES COMPLETION OF LOCAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
The Town of Lockeport invites all media and the public to celebrate the completion of recent infrastructure projects in Lockeport includingthe Grand Opening of Seacaps Park Lighthouse Stage/Support Facility and the completion of local road projects. The Seacaps Park Lighthouse facility will be the focal point for concerts and events for Lockeport and the surrounding area.  The structure is unique not only to Lockeport, but possibly to all Nova Scotia in that it will be a turnkey outdoor venue.  Within a few hours this venue can support an event or concert handling up to 1200 people with a performance stage, seating, washrooms and vendor facilities, all barrier free accessible. We will also be celebrating the completion of additional boardwalk, a historic look-off, murals, interpretive and branding signage and visitor information kiosks around the entire Lockeport Loop area.

Many organizations and agencies have joined together to make these projects a reality, including the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Building Canada, the Province of Nova Scotia, the Town of Lockeport, Harmony Bazaar, Lockeport Medical First Responders and local Businesses.

“This just goes to show what can happen when everyone co-operates with a collective vision,” said Mayor Huskilson.

On Friday, August 13th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. an open house will be held for the public to tour this new facility.  At 3:00 p.m. a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held, featuring Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament for South Shore-St. Margaret’s, the Honourable Ramona Jennex, Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, Mayor Darian Huskilson and Council for the Town of Lockeport, Nova Scotia.
